UNITED NATIONS, Feb 4, (Xinhua): The UN Security Council on Tuesday condemned Saturday's terrorist attacks in multiple locations in Pakistan's Balochistan province. In a press statement, council members condemned "in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly terrorist attacks."

This reprehensible act of terrorism resulted in the grievous loss of 48 people, 31 of whom were civilians, including five women and three children, said the statement, adding that the Balochistan Liberation Army has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Council members expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims as well as to the government and people of Pakistan, and wished a speedy and full recovery to those injured, it said.

Stressing that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, they reaffirmed the need for all states to combat, by all means, threats to global peace and security caused by terrorist acts.

They also underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice, urging all states to cooperate actively with the government of Pakistan in this regard.
