KUWAIT CITY, Sept 4: The Deputy Director General of the General Department of Investigations at Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior (MoI), Reem Al-Mousa, met with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls, Reem Al-Salem, to discuss ways to enhance Kuwait’s legal framework for protecting women and girls from all forms of violence.
The meeting, held at the Investigations Department headquarters, focused on strengthening national efforts to safeguard human dignity and ensure the protection of rights in line with both local laws and international conventions.
The MoI issued a statement on Thursday, noting that the meeting was part of ongoing efforts to foster cooperation with international organizations and bolster Kuwait’s commitment to protecting women and children. Al-Mousa welcomed the UN Special Rapporteur and her colleague Hala Fayyad, who were received at the MoI to explore collaboration in these areas.
Al-Salem praised Kuwait’s progress on women's rights, recognizing the country’s advancements as a testament to its commitment to upholding justice, human dignity, and international cooperation on related issues. She acknowledged the significant strides made by the MoI in supporting women's rights and tackling gender-based violence.
The meeting was also attended by Saad Al-Mutairi, Deputy Director General for Public Prosecution Affairs; Dr. Khaled Al-Enezi, Director of the Special Committee Investigation Department; Awatif Al-Enezi, Acting Director of the Hawalli Governorate Investigation Department and Public Prosecutor; along with several public prosecutors, heads of investigations, and a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
