UN Adds Israel to Blacklist of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence Perpetrators

UNITED NATIONS, May 28: The United Nations has added Israel to its blacklist of parties responsible for sexual violence in conflict zones. This decision has drawn sharp criticism from Israel’s envoy to the organization.

The move places Israel on the UN list that tracks alleged perpetrators of sexual violence during armed conflict, according to the United Nations monitoring framework.

Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, publicly disclosed the decision on social media platform X, calling it a “political decision” that he said was “disconnected from the facts and reality.”

Danon said Israel had submitted evidence intended to refute the UN’s findings and strongly rejected the inclusion on the blacklist.

“This is a political decision! Disconnected from the facts and reality,” he wrote, adding that Israel had presented material to challenge the reports underlying the designation.

The UN has not yet issued a detailed public response addressing Israel’s objections. The development adds further strain to Israel’s already contentious relationship with the global body amid ongoing regional conflict and heightened international scrutiny.
