Ukraine Tells Iranian Regime to Stop Playing Victim Card, Accuses Tehran of Supporting Russia’s War Since 2022

KYIV, Jul 27: Ukraine on Monday rejected Iran’s attempts to portray itself as a victim, accusing Tehran of directly supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine through the supply of weapons used in the conflict.

Ukraine’s Acting Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Iran’s threats were “unjustified and groundless,” arguing that Tehran’s government had become an accomplice to Russia’s aggression by providing weapons that have been used against Ukrainians since 2022.

“Iran has no standing to pretend to be a victim, let alone justify its threats with absurd references to the UN Charter,” Sybiha said in a post on X.

The Ukrainian official also accused Iran of attempting to divert attention from Russian attacks on civilian shipping in the Black Sea, saying the issue would be raised during an emergency United Nations Security Council meeting.

Sybiha said Ukraine expects a strong response from the international community over what he described as threats to freedom of navigation and attacks on civilian maritime activity.
