Ukraine Drone Strike Hits Russia's Wildberries Logistics Hub as US Warns Putin Could Test NATO

MOSCOW, Aug 7: A fire broke out at a Wildberries logistics center in Russia’s Yekaterinburg on Friday after debris from a Ukrainian drone attack struck the facility, local authorities said.

Sverdlovsk Regional Governor Denis Pasler said Russian air defenses destroyed eight drones over the region, with three crashing onto the roof of the logistics center. He said the building was evacuated and no injuries were reported. Wildberries confirmed that emergency crews were responding to the fire and that deliveries were temporarily rerouted to other facilities.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces intercepted 203 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory, annexed Crimea and the Black Sea, while Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia launched 147 drones against Ukrainian targets. The claims from both sides could not be independently verified.

The strike was part of a wider Ukrainian drone campaign targeting Wildberries logistics facilities across Russia. Kyiv has accused the company of supporting Moscow’s military supply chain, while Russian authorities and Wildberries have denied the allegations, saying the facilities are civilian.

Meanwhile, a US intelligence assessment cited by The Wall Street Journal warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin could attempt to test NATO’s resolve through a limited attack on an alliance member in the coming years. Possible scenarios reportedly include cyberattacks or a small-scale military incursion. The report also said US weapons stocks, including some systems used in potential conflicts with Russia or China, have been reduced due to transfers to Ukraine and other military commitments.
