LONDON, Sept 22: The UK announced on Tuesday that they will be tightening social distancing measures across the country after the high number of COVID-19 deaths and infections.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed to MPs that it is mandatory to wear face masks to restaurants, shops, buses and taxis.
He explained that the fine for violating this measure has been raised, worth between GBP 100 to 200 pounds (USD 128 to 256), adding that the police budget will be raised in order to strengthen its law enforcement capacity.
Starting from Thursday, restaurants and cafes will close at 10:00 p.m., while the number of wedding guests will be reduced from 30 to 15, he said, noting that it was decided to postpone the return of the public to attend sports events.
Johnson warned that his government would not delay adopting tougher measures if necessary, but ruled out re-imposing lockdown like the one last March, which led to the almost complete closure of economic and social activity.
It is worth noting that the UK recorded 11 deaths and 4,368 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, Monday, while the number of hospitalized patients reached 1,081(KUNA)
