UK Sends HMS Dragon to Hormuz as US Navy Redirects 58 Iranian Vessels and Disables 4

LONDON, May 9: Britain will deploy the Royal Navy destroyer HMS Dragon to the Middle East amid ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and continued maritime restrictions imposed on Iran by U.S. forces, the UK Ministry of Defence announced.

The warship is being redeployed in preparation for a possible UK- and French-led maritime security mission aimed at protecting commercial shipping routes through the strategic waterway once hostilities between Iran and U.S.-Israeli forces come to an end. The move comes as a fragile ceasefire in the region continues to hold.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Naval blockade on Iran remains fully enforced, with U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reportedly continuing operations to prevent vessels from entering or departing Iranian ports. According to available figures, CENTCOM forces have redirected 58 commercial vessels and disabled four others since April 13 as part of the ongoing maritime enforcement campaign.
