LONDON, July 23: The United Kingdom said on Thursday that its armed forces are prepared to defend the country against any potential attack after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned against allowing US bombers to operate from British bases.

A UK government spokesperson said Britain’s military remains ready to respond to threats from any direction, whether they originate domestically or abroad.

“Our Armed Forces are ready to keep the United Kingdom safe from any kind of attacks, whether it’s on our soil or from abroad. The UK stands ready 24/7 to defend itself,” the spokesperson said.

The government added that Britain maintains a layered air and missile defense system involving Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force assets, supported by advanced capabilities and cooperation with NATO allies.

The statement came after Iran criticized Britain’s reported decision to allow the United States to use British military facilities for operations against Tehran, warning that countries assisting military action against Iran would face consequences.
