UK Reaffirms NATO Commitment as Starmer Announces Hormuz Security Talks

LONDON (AP), Apr 1: Keir Starmer said Britain remains fully committed to NATO, responding to remarks by Donald Trump suggesting the United States could consider withdrawing from the alliance.

Speaking to reporters, Starmer described NATO as “the single most effective military alliance the world has ever seen,” adding that he would continue to act in Britain’s national interest despite external pressure.

The UK prime minister also announced that Britain will host an international conference this week aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route.

Starmer said 35 countries have already signed a joint statement committing to restore maritime security in the area. The conference will be led by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, while military planners are working on post-conflict security arrangements.

He emphasized the need for “a united front of military strength and diplomatic activity” to stabilize the region.
