LONDON, Apr 12: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq have called on the United States and Iran to avoid further escalation following the collapse of recent peace talks.
According to a statement from London, the two leaders discussed the outcome of negotiations held in Pakistan over the weekend and stressed the need for restraint and continued dialogue.
“It was vital there was a continuation of the ceasefire, and that all parties avoided any further escalation,” a spokesperson said, adding that both leaders urged Washington and Tehran to find a path forward.
Starmer, who recently returned from meetings with regional allies in the Middle East, also highlighted ongoing international efforts to restore safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
He reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting Oman’s security, as concerns persist over rising tensions and their potential impact on global energy supplies and regional stability.
