ISLAMABAD, Apr 10: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday received a phone call from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, during which the UK leader praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating a US–Iran ceasefire and hosting peace negotiations in Islamabad.
According to a statement from Sharif’s office, both leaders underscored the importance of maintaining the ceasefire and creating conditions for long-term peace and stability in the region. They also stressed continued international coordination to support the fragile truce.
Separately, Sharif announced that delegations from the United States and Iran are arriving in Islamabad for talks aimed at securing durable peace. He described the moment as a “make-or-break situation” and said Pakistan would do everything possible to ensure the success of the negotiations.
Sharif thanked the leadership of Iran and United States for agreeing to the ceasefire and participating in the talks, adding that his government had initiated the diplomatic push that led to the current process.
The Pakistani leader urged citizens to pray for the talks’ success as efforts intensify to prevent further escalation in the region.
