LONDON, Apr 13: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said that Britain is “not supporting a blockade” of Iranian ports, amid escalating tensions affecting maritime traffic in the Gulf region. He said the UK’s priority is the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which he described as essential to bringing global energy prices down “as quickly as possible.”
Starmer, when asked whether US President Donald Trump should be held personally responsible for the impact on UK energy bills, did not directly respond. Instead, he said the UK’s focus is on bringing countries together to call for de-escalation and to restore free movement through the strategic waterway.
He added that Iran is responsible for the current disruption in Gulf shipping and stressed that Britain is not being drawn into the conflict, but is instead working to reduce tensions and stabilize energy markets.
