DUBAI, Sep 2: Overstayers looking to leave the UAE must apply for visa amnesty in the emirate where their residency was originally issued, according to a recent clarification from Dubai authorities.
The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) stated: “Individuals with residencies issued in other emirates must return to the emirate where their residency was granted to process their departure.”
For those wanting to stay in Dubai after resolving their status, they can continue with their application in Dubai. “If they wish to stay in the country and seek job opportunities within Dubai, they should address their status amendments with Dubai Residency, regardless of their residency file in other emirates,” the statement added.
This directive is part of the ongoing amnesty program designed to help overstayers either regularize their status or find employment opportunities in the UAE.
