ABU DHABI, April 1: The UAE’s air defence systems successfully intercepted five ballistic missiles and 35 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from Iran on April 1, 2026, as regional tensions continue to escalate.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the latest engagement is part of ongoing efforts to counter what it described as sustained and blatant Iranian attacks targeting the country’s security and stability.
Since the beginning of the escalation, UAE air defences have intercepted a total of 438 ballistic missiles, 19 cruise missiles, and 2,012 UAVs, underscoring the intensity and persistence of the aerial threats.
The attacks have resulted in multiple casualties. Two members of the armed forces were killed while carrying out their national duty, alongside a Moroccan civilian contractor working with the military. Additionally, nine civilians of various nationalities — including Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi, Palestinian, and Indian — were also killed.
A total of 190 people have been injured, with conditions ranging from minor to severe. Those affected include nationals from a wide range of countries, reflecting the UAE’s diverse population. Among them are citizens of the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Comoros, Türkiye, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Jordan, Palestine, Ghana, Indonesia, Sweden, and Tunisia.
The Ministry of Defence reiterated that it remains on full readiness to confront any threats to the nation. It emphasized that all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, ensure public safety, and protect vital national interests.
Authorities affirmed that the UAE will continue to respond decisively to any actions that seek to undermine its security and stability.
