ABU DHABI, May 4: Schools across the United Arab Emirates have reverted to online classes until Friday, May 8, following an announcement by the UAE Ministry of Education amid renewed regional security concerns.
The decision comes after multiple emergency alerts were issued across the country within a span of hours, as authorities responded to heightened tensions linked to missile activity and evolving developments in the wider Gulf region.
Officials said education institutions quickly activated remote learning systems to ensure continuity of academic activities, with schools maintaining regular timetables in an online format while monitoring official updates. Schools and universities remain in close coordination with authorities and are expected to inform parents promptly of any further changes.
The shift follows a recent return to in-person learning on April 20, after several weeks of remote education introduced as a precaution during earlier regional tensions. During that period, schools, nurseries, and universities operated under enhanced safety protocols and staggered reopening plans.
Education regulators have reiterated that institutions must remain prepared to switch between physical and remote learning depending on security conditions, as authorities prioritise uninterrupted education while ensuring the safety of students and staff.
