ABU DHABI, Oct 1: The UAE has launched an official investigation into an incident involving flydubai flight FZ1073, which was travelling from Dubai International Airport to Tel Aviv before being diverted and landing safely at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said UAE Attorney-General Counsellor Dr. Hamad Al Shamsi ordered the formation of a specialised Public Prosecution team to investigate the circumstances and causes of the incident. The move follows flydubai's announcement that an altercation occurred in the flight deck, prompting crew members travelling on board to intervene and secure the aircraft.
The UAE Ministry said its judicial authorities have jurisdiction to investigate because the aircraft is registered in the UAE and operates under the UAE flag. Accordingly, UAE law applies to crimes committed on board the aircraft, including incidents occurring outside UAE territory.
Investigators will examine the circumstances and motives surrounding the incident, including any possible link to terrorist activity or intent, as well as whether the incident involved prior planning or direction. The UAE also thanked Saudi authorities for their cooperation and handling of the incident.
The Ministry urged the public and media to rely only on information released by official sources and to avoid circulating speculation or unverified reports until the investigation is completed and its findings announced.
