UAE, Dec 18: A recently introduced work permit for educators in the UAE now regulates the provision of private lessons for students outside of formal educational institutions. Unveiled on Monday, the private teacher work permit enables qualified professionals to conduct private lessons either individually or in groups.

The beneficiaries of this permit encompass registered teachers in both government and private schools, individuals employed in government and private sectors, those currently unemployed, as well as school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Collaboratively launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) and the Ministry of Education (MoE), the primary goal of this permit is to address the issue of unauthorized private tuition. To apply for the permit, eligible individuals can submit a request through the digital platforms provided by the MoHRE. On the ministry’s website, applicants will locate the ‘Private Teacher Work Permit’ option under the ‘Services’ tab.

Concerning the cost and validity of the permit, it is granted free of charge and is valid for a duration of two years. The MoHRE stated, “This allows qualified individuals…who are granted the permit to offer private lessons and generate direct income, provided they sign a ‘code of conduct’ document approved by the ministry.”

Individuals offering private lessons without obtaining the necessary permit from the ministry will be subject to “fines and penalties.” However, specific details regarding the amounts of fines or the nature of penalties were not provided by the ministry.

He emphasized that the introduction of this permit aims to address the issue of illegal and unregulated practices in the recruitment of private teachers, which poses a risk to the overall learning process.

Khalil Al Khoori, the undersecretary for Human Resources Affairs at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), encouraged individuals seeking private lessons to engage with authorized professionals. He also urged them to fulfill their financial obligations as mutually agreed upon between the parties involved.
