To apply for the permit, eligible individuals can submit a request through the digital platforms provided by the MoHRE. On the ministry’s website, applicants will locate the ‘Private Teacher Work Permit’ option under the ‘Services’ tab.

Concerning the cost and validity of the permit, it is granted free of charge and is valid for a duration of two years. The MoHRE stated, “This allows qualified individuals…who are granted the permit to offer private lessons and generate direct income, provided they sign a ‘code of conduct’ document approved by the ministry.”

Individuals offering private lessons without obtaining the necessary permit from the ministry will be subject to “fines and penalties.” However, specific details regarding the amounts of fines or the nature of penalties were not provided by the ministry.

What prompted the introduction of the permit?

According to Dr. Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al Mualla, the undersecretary for Academic Affairs at the Ministry of Education, the new permit system was implemented to provide “flexible options for students and parents,” all while upholding discipline, quality, and efficiency in the educational process. He emphasized that the introduction of this permit aims to address the issue of illegal and unregulated practices in the recruitment of private teachers, which poses a risk to the overall learning process.

The legal framework established by the permit operates at the national level, safeguarding the rights of private teachers and ensuring that students receive supplemental education tailored to their learning style and needs. Khalil Al Khoori, the undersecretary for Human Resources Affairs at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), encouraged individuals seeking private lessons to engage with authorized professionals. He also urged them to fulfill their financial obligations as mutually agreed upon between the parties involved.
