ABU DHABI, Mar 20: The UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed that air defence systems successfully engaged four ballistic missiles and 26 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from Iran on March 20, 2026.
The ministry stated that since the onset of what it described as “blatant Iranian aggression,” UAE air defences have intercepted a total of 338 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles, and 1,740 UAVs.
The ongoing attacks have resulted in the deaths of two members of the UAE armed forces while carrying out their national duties. Additionally, six civilians of Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi, and Palestinian nationalities were killed.
A total of 158 people have been injured, with cases ranging from minor to severe. The injured include nationals from a wide range of countries, including the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Comoros, Türkiye, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Jordan, Palestine, Ghana, Indonesia, Sweden, and Tunisia.
The Ministry of Defence reiterated its full preparedness to respond to any threats, affirming that it will decisively counter any attempts to undermine the country’s security. It emphasized its commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty, stability, and strategic interests.
