ABU DHABI, May 8: The United Arab Emirates’ air defence systems intercepted two ballistic missiles and three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from Iran on May 8, 2026, the Ministry of Defence announced, as regional tensions continue to escalate.
According to the ministry, the latest engagement resulted in three moderate injuries. Authorities did not specify the locations of the interceptions but confirmed that all incoming threats were successfully neutralized.
Since the onset of what officials described as “blatant Iranian attacks” on the UAE, the country’s air defences have intercepted a total of 551 ballistic missiles, 29 cruise missiles, and 2,263 UAVs, underscoring the scale and persistence of the threat.
The cumulative number of injuries has now reached 230, affecting individuals from a wide range of nationalities. These include Emirati, Egyptian, Sudanese, Ethiopian, Filipino, Pakistani, Iranian, Indian, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Azerbaijani, Yemeni, Ugandan, Eritrean, Lebanese, Afghan, Bahraini, Comorian, Turkish, Iraqi, Nepali, Nigerian, Omani, Jordanian, Palestinian, Ghanaian, Indonesian, Swedish, Tunisian, Moroccan, and Russian nationals.
The Ministry also reported three martyrs, including a Moroccan civilian contracted with the armed forces. Civilian fatalities stand at 10, involving individuals of Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi, Palestinian, Indian, and Egyptian nationalities.
Reaffirming its stance, the Ministry of Defence said it remains fully prepared to counter any threats and will continue to take firm action to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, security, and stability, as well as protect its national interests and capabilities.
