ABU DHABI, March 18: The UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed that its air defence systems successfully intercepted 13 ballistic missiles and 27 drones on March 18, all launched from Iran, as part of continued hostilities targeting the country.
According to the ministry, the latest interceptions add to a growing tally since the start of the attacks, with UAE air defences having neutralized a total of 327 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles, and 1,699 drones.
The ongoing attacks have resulted in casualties, including the martyrdom of two members of the UAE Armed Forces while performing their national duty. Additionally, six civilians of various nationalities — including Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi, and Palestinian — were killed.
A total of 158 people have been injured, with cases ranging from minor to severe. The injured include nationals from a wide range of countries, reflecting the UAE’s diverse population. Among them are citizens of the UAE as well as expatriates from Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Comoros, Türkiye, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Jordan, Palestine, Ghana, Indonesia, Sweden, and Tunisia.
The Ministry of Defence reaffirmed its full readiness to confront ongoing threats, stressing that it will take all necessary measures to protect the country’s sovereignty, security, and stability. It added that safeguarding national interests and capabilities remains a top priority as tensions in the region continue to escalate.
