ABU DHABI, Apr 8: The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said its air defenses intercepted 17 ballistic missiles and 35 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on April 8, 2026, which it said were launched from Iran.
According to the statement, UAE air defense systems have engaged a total of 537 ballistic missiles, 26 cruise missiles, and 2,256 UAVs since the onset of what it described as ongoing attacks.
The ministry said recent incidents resulted in three minor injuries, bringing the total number of injuries to 224 involving residents and citizens of multiple nationalities. It added that no deaths were reported in the past hours.
Officials said that since the beginning of the attacks, there have been two confirmed deaths and additional civilian fatalities, including foreign nationals working in the country.
The Ministry of Defence reaffirmed that it remains fully prepared to counter any further threats and will continue to protect the country’s sovereignty, security and critical infrastructure.
