DUBAI, Mar 31: Major UAE carriers, including Emirates, flydubai, and Etihad Airways, have updated their official travel advisories, stating that Iranian nationals are not permitted to enter or transit through the United Arab Emirates, according to the airlines’ websites.
The revised guidance provides no explanation for the restriction. However, the airlines have confirmed that certain categories of travellers are exempt from the measures.
Golden Visa holders exempted
In their updated travel notices, the carriers stated that UAE Golden Visa holders of Iranian nationality are exempt from the entry and transit restrictions, allowing them to continue travelling to and through the country under their existing long-term residency status.
Additional exemptions listed by Emirates
Emirates further outlined several additional categories of Iranian nationals who may still be permitted entry or transit, including:
- Spouses of UAE nationals
- Children of female UAE nationals
- Athletes
- Bank executives
- Doctors and medical professionals
- Families of UAE nationals
- Engineers
- Investors
- Senior professionals
- Traders
Policy shift raises questions
The updated rules mark a significant tightening of travel and transit regulations for Iranian nationals using UAE hubs, particularly Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which have historically served as major international transfer points.
While the airlines’ notices do not specify the reason behind the changes, the lack of official explanation has added uncertainty for affected passengers, especially those who previously relied on the UAE as a transit gateway for global travel.
