UAE condemns “terrorist attack” on Indian vessel off Oman coast, warns of threat to maritime security

ABU DHABI, May 14: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned what it described as a “terrorist attack” targeting an Indian-flagged vessel off the coast of the Sultanate of Oman, warning that the incident poses a serious threat to international maritime navigation and regional stability.

In an official statement, the ministry said the attack represents a dangerous escalation aimed at undermining the security of vital waterways and global shipping routes. The UAE expressed full solidarity with India, affirming its support for measures taken to safeguard the safety of Indian vessels and maritime interests.

The ministry also said the attack violates United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which emphasizes freedom of navigation and rejects targeting of commercial shipping. It warned that using the Strait of Hormuz as a means of economic pressure or “blackmail” amounts to piracy and endangers global energy security and regional peace.
