ABU DHABI, Aug 31: The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned what it described as a hostile Iranian attack involving a drone that was intercepted by UAE air defense systems over the country’s territorial waters.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the incident represented a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of the country’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, while posing a direct threat to the safety of citizens and residents.

In a statement, the ministry described the attack as an unacceptable act of aggression and a violation of international law and the UN Charter.

The UAE said it would not tolerate threats to its security or sovereignty and reserved its full and legitimate right to respond in a manner necessary to protect its territory, national security and the safety of citizens, residents and visitors, in accordance with international law.

The ministry called for an immediate halt to such attacks and full compliance with the cessation of hostilities, adding that the UAE holds Iran fully responsible for the attack and its repercussions.
