ABU DHABI/RIYADH, Jul 7: The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have strongly condemned what they described as Iranian attacks on commercial oil tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz, warning that the incidents threaten international shipping, regional security and global energy supplies.

In a statement posted on X on Tuesday, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced what it called an "aggressive Iranian attack" targeting the Qatari tanker Al Rakayat as it sailed near the Strait of Hormuz.

The UAE expressed full solidarity with Qatar, saying attacks on commercial shipping and attempts to use the strategic waterway as a means of pressure were unacceptable.

"Targeting commercial shipping or using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of pressure or economic blackmail is unacceptable."

The ministry added that the attack represented a serious threat to international navigation and the security of one of the world's most critical maritime trade routes.

Saudi Arabia also issued a strong condemnation, accusing Iran of targeting both the Saudi tanker Wadyan and the Qatari tanker Al Rekayyat while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said the attacks endangered freedom of navigation and posed risks to global energy supplies.

"The kingdom stresses its demand that Iran immediately stop all actions that threaten the security of the region and the safety of international navigation and energy supplies."

Saudi Arabia further said it holds Iran "fully responsible for these attacks, their damage and all their repercussions."

The coordinated condemnations come as tensions continue to escalate in the Gulf following a series of attacks on commercial vessels. The incidents have prompted international maritime authorities to raise security warnings for ships operating in and around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's busiest oil shipping corridors.
