ABU DHABI, Jul 12: The United Arab Emirates activated its air defense systems on Saturday to intercept incoming ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones launched from Iran, according to the UAE Ministry of Defense.

The ministry said air defense units were actively engaging multiple missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) threats targeting the country.

It added that the sounds of explosions heard in scattered areas across the UAE were the result of ongoing interception operations carried out by the country's air defense systems.

The Ministry of Defense said the situation was being closely monitored and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the country's airspace and ensuring the safety of residents.

The interceptions come amid escalating regional tensions and continued exchanges between Iran and the United States in the Gulf region.
