TAMPA, Fla., July 18: Two U.S. service members were killed in action and another remains missing after Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks targeted Jordan on July 17, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced.
In a statement issued from its headquarters in Tampa, Florida, CENTCOM said the casualties occurred while U.S. and partner forces were defending against the Iranian assault.
The command also confirmed that four American service members were medically evacuated to hospitals in Jordan following the attack. All four have since been discharged after receiving treatment, while other personnel evaluated for minor injuries have returned to duty.
CENTCOM said it is withholding additional details, including the identities of the two fallen service members, out of respect for their families. The names will be released no earlier than 24 hours after the next of kin have been notified.
The incident marks another deadly escalation in the ongoing regional conflict, as Iranian missile and drone attacks continue to threaten U.S. forces and allied partners across the Middle East.
CENTCOM has not released further information regarding the circumstances surrounding the missing service member or ongoing search efforts, saying additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
For international news, the dateline should generally reflect where the statement was issued (Tampa) or where the event occurred (Jordan)—not Kuwait unless the story is being reported from Kuwait or has a direct Kuwait-specific angle.
