KUWAIT CITY, Sep 21: Kuwait’s General Department for Drug Control, in coordination with the General Administration of Customs, has foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics into the country after intercepting a shipment in which the drugs were concealed in a secret and sophisticated manner.
Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of two Sri Lankan nationals in the Mubarak Al-Kabeer and Salwa areas after they received the shipment. A search of their residence resulted in the seizure of approximately 4 kilograms of heroin and 100 grams of methamphetamine, along with 16 iron pieces, or “cranks,” allegedly used in the smuggling operation, and a precision scale.
When confronted with the seized items, the suspects reportedly confessed that they had been receiving instructions from a Sri Lankan national residing outside Kuwait to receive shipments, remove the narcotics and distribute them inside the country in exchange for money.
The suspects and the seized items were referred to the competent authorities for legal action on charges of possessing narcotic substances with the intent to traffic and use them.
