KUWAIT CITY, July 8: In an initiative embodying the depth of cultural relations between Kuwait and Portugal, the Museum of Modern Art hosted a ceremony for the handover of two prominent art pieces by Portuguese artist Miguel Rodrigues and the late photographer Manuel Correa – gifts from Portugal. The art pieces are considered a valuable addition to the collection of the museum, reaffirming that art is one of the most important bridges of communication among peoples and cultures. Present at the event were representatives of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), along with a distinguished group of cultural and media figures, and members of the Portuguese community in Kuwait.

Dr. Mohammad bin Redha, who represented NCCAL and the Museum of Modern Art, emphasized that this initiative proves the importance of cultural exchange in fostering intercultural dialogue. He pointed out that the museum is a platform that embraces global creativity and strengthens human connection between nations. António Azevedo Campos, Chairman of the Portuguese Business Council in Kuwait and Regional Coordinator of the Council of Portuguese Communities, asserted that the gifts are not just part of a cultural initiative, but also convey a message of friendship and mutual respect between the two friendly countries. He said art lends a human dimension to relations among nations and its impact extends far beyond words.

He explained that the two artworks grant Portuguese creativity a permanent place in the cultural memory of Kuwait. He indicated that Rodrigues and the late Correa participated in art events and exhibitions in Kuwait, as well as contributed to workshops and cultural dialogues in collaboration with NCCAL, which means these pieces of art are returning to their place of origin. The sculpture by Rodrigues embodies the spirit of contemporary Portuguese art, drawing inspiration from the Baroque school in a modern style. The photograph by the late Correa documents a scene from Portuguese folklore, embodying identity, heritage and popular memory. The event organizers emphasized that this donation is an extension of the cultural initiatives that have brought Kuwait and Portugal together over the past years in the fields of art, music and cultural dialogue. They affirmed that such events enhance the status of the museum as a cultural beacon, which brings civilizations together and reinforces the values of friendship, peace and mutual respect between the two countries.
