Two Pakistanis and an Indonesian killed in Houthi attack on a commercial vessel in Bab al-Mandeb

SANAA, Aug 11:  Three crew members were killed after Yemen’s Houthi group attacked a commercial vessel in the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a government-affiliated broadcaster reported Tuesday.

Al-Jumhuriya TV said preliminary information indicated that the victims included two Pakistani nationals and one Indonesian national.

The broadcaster did not immediately identify the vessel involved or disclose the identity of its owner.

There was no immediate statement from the Iran-aligned Houthi group regarding the reported attack.

The Bab al-Mandeb Strait is a strategically important maritime passage linking the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden, serving as a key gateway for commercial shipping between the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

The incident adds to growing security concerns surrounding commercial shipping in the region, where Houthi attacks have previously disrupted maritime traffic and forced some vessels to seek alternative routes.
