KUWAIT CITY, Nov 29: Two Kuwaiti female researchers have been named winners of the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Middle East Award for 2024 and 2025, the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) announced Friday, marking a distinguished achievement for Kuwait in the fields of chemistry and genetics.

In a statement posted on its official X account, KFAS said that Dr. Entisar Al-Hatlani, a chemistry professor at Kuwait University, received the 2024 award for her research in deep ultraviolet Raman spectroscopy and its applications in forensic analysis and materials detection.

KFAS added that Dr. Fatima Bahman, a researcher at the Dasman Diabetes Institute, was selected as the 2025 award recipient for her work examining the genetic links between diet and inflammation and their connection to metabolic diseases.

The foundation noted that both researchers were honored during a ceremony held Thursday in Dubai, where the program recognized a select group of outstanding female scientists from across the Middle East as part of efforts to support and promote women’s roles in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science program, a global partnership, aims to empower women in scientific fields by celebrating their achievements and encouraging future generations of female researchers.
