DUBAI, Apr 14: Ship tracking analysis by BBC Verify suggests that two Iran-linked vessels that initially transited the Strait of Hormuz after the reported U.S. blockade have since reversed direction and appear to be heading back.

According to the data, the US-sanctioned tanker Rich Starry sailed east from Sharjah through the strait overnight while reportedly carrying cargo, but later changed course and began heading back.

Tracking also shows the bulk carrier Christianna, which had crossed the strait on Monday after calling at Iran’s Bandar Imam Khomeini port, has similarly altered its route and reversed direction.

The United States Central Command has claimed that six merchant vessels were instructed to turn around during the early phase of the blockade and complied with U.S. directions.

Another US-sanctioned tanker, Elpis, is also reported to have passed through the strait heading east on Tuesday, potentially originating from Iran’s Bushehr port. However, tracking data shows the vessel is now stationary east of the strait.

Analysts noted that some vessels may be transmitting inaccurate position signals, a practice known as “spoofing,” which can be used to obscure their actual locations.
