Two Government officials get jail in certificate forgery

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 24: The Criminal Court sentenced a former department director and an engineer at Kuwait Municipality to four years in prison with hard labor for forging and approving property description certificates for properties in Jahra Governorate that falsely stated the number of floors and total areas.

The case is based on a report submitted by the Kuwait Authority for Combating Corruption (Nazaha) about violations committed in 2020 and 2021. The report disclosed that certificates were issued and approved with information that did not reflect the true condition of the properties, a breach of the applicable regulations and requirements.

According to the case details, an administrative investigation conducted by the Municipality substantiated the presence of violations and forgery in several certificates. One of the defendants was subjected to disciplinary action in the form of a demotion, and both Nazaha and the Public Prosecution were formally notified to undertake the necessary legal measures. Subsequently, the Public Prosecution launched its investigations, which led to the referral of the defendants to the Criminal Court
