KUWAIT CITY, Dec 21: The Ministry of Interior has reaffirmed that any assault on security personnel constitutes a serious crime and will be met with strict legal action, stressing that there will be no leniency toward offenders under any circumstances.
In a statement issued on Sunday evening, the Ministry announced that legal measures have been taken against those involved in an incident in which a police officer was run over while performing his official duties in the Al-Wafra farms area. The Ministry also confirmed that the vehicles used in the incident have been impounded as part of the procedures taken to enforce the law and deter such violations.
The Ministry explained that the incident occurred within the framework of its ongoing security campaigns aimed at addressing dangerous and reckless traffic behavior. Two vehicles, which had previously been seized in cases involving negligence and recklessness, were impounded, underscoring the Ministry’s firm stance against any actions that threaten public security and safety.
According to the statement, security authorities succeeded in arresting two individuals in connection with the incident involving a traffic police officer in the Al-Wafra farms area of Al-Ahmadi Governorate. The case dates back to Thursday evening, when a report was received regarding a hit-and-run incident. Specialized patrols were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Initial investigations revealed that the incident occurred while a security officer was attempting to stop a vehicle without license plates that was being driven recklessly and irresponsibly in the area. During the enforcement procedures, the driver attempted to flee the scene on foot and tried to board another vehicle, also without license plates. In an attempt to facilitate his escape, the driver of the second vehicle struck one of the police officers, causing him injuries and lacerations to his hands and left leg.
The injured police officer was transported by ambulance to the Emergency Department at Sabah Al-Ahmad Hospital, where he received the necessary medical treatment and underwent examinations. He was later discharged, and the Ministry reassured the public that his condition is stable.
The Ministry of Interior emphasized that reckless traffic practices, attempts to evade law enforcement, and assaults on security personnel while they are performing their duties are grave violations that endanger lives and public safety. It reiterated that such acts will not be tolerated and that the strictest legal measures will be taken against those involved, including the confiscation and impoundment of vehicles used in such offenses and the referral of suspects to the competent authorities, in accordance with the rule of law and in the interest of safeguarding the security and safety of society.
