ANKARA, Mar 9: The Ministry of National Defense (Türkiye) announced that the NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defence system successfully intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Iran after it entered Türkiye’s airspace.
In a statement, the ministry said debris from the intercepted missile fell in uninhabited fields in Gaziantep Province in southern Türkiye, with no casualties reported. The ministry emphasized that Türkiye prioritizes good neighborly relations and regional stability but will take all necessary measures against any threat targeting its territory and airspace.
The ministry noted that on March 4, Turkish defense systems, operating under NATO’s Integrated Air and Missile Defence framework and deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean region, intercepted a ballistic missile heading toward Turkish airspace and neutralized it in time.
Ankara also reaffirmed its right to respond to such incidents and said it remains in continuous coordination with NATO and allied partners.
