ANKARA, Oct 7, (Xinhua): Turkish gendarmerie units have detained 78 suspects during operations targeting seven separate organized crime organizations based in seven provinces, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said Tuesday. In a post on the social platform X, Yerlikaya said 46 of the suspects had been formally arrested while 27 were placed under judicial control. The remaining cases are still being processed.
The minister said that the suspects had been accused of crimes including migrant smuggling, running an organized drug trade and engaging in loan sharking. He said that an injunction had been imposed on assets worth an estimated 1.04 billion Turkish lira (24.9 million U.S. dollars).
