ANKARA, Apr 19: Turkey's Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan has described Israel’s leadership as a “fundamentalist government” and warned it poses a broader threat beyond the region, amid escalating rhetoric between Ankara and Tel Aviv.
Speaking at a press conference at the close of a three-day diplomacy forum in southern Turkey, Fidan rejected suggestions that Turkey could replace Iran as Israel’s primary adversary.
“This is a fundamentalist government. They are a problem for the whole world. This is not just a problem for Turkey,” he said.
Turkish officials have increasingly criticized Israel over its military operations across multiple fronts, including Gaza Strip, Iran, Lebanon and Syria, describing them as “expansionist” and destabilizing.
Fidan said countering what he called a growing threat from Israel is now clearly on the agenda of the international community.
He also criticized defense agreements signed in December between Israel, Greece and Cyprus, describing them as a “military alliance against Muslim countries in the region.”
The remarks highlight deepening geopolitical tensions and competing alliances across the Eastern Mediterranean and the wider Middle East.
