Turkey, Pakistan and Egypt Working to Bring US and Iran Back to Negotiating Table

ISLAMABAD (AP), Apr 4: Mediators from Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt are continuing efforts to bring the United States and Iran back to the negotiating table, according to two regional officials familiar with the discussions.

The countries are reportedly working on a compromise framework aimed at narrowing differences between Washington and Tehran, with proposals focusing on ending hostilities and reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The plan is also said to include a temporary ceasefire to create conditions for a broader diplomatic settlement.

Officials said the emerging proposal envisions Pakistan as a potential venue for direct talks between the two sides, though arrangements have not yet been finalized. The discussions remain informal and are being conducted through backchannel diplomacy involving regional intermediaries.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday that Tehran is willing to resume negotiations in Pakistan, but emphasized that Iran seeks a “conclusive and lasting” resolution to the conflict.

He also confirmed holding a phone call with Turkey’s foreign minister on Friday to review the latest developments, as diplomatic efforts continue to intensify behind the scenes.
