DUBAI, Oct 18: A southbound tug was struck by two unknown projectiles northeast of Khor Fakkan in the United Arab Emirates, sustaining damage and leaving one person with minor injuries, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

In an advisory issued on Oct 18 under reference number 177-26, UKMTO said it had received a report of the incident involving the tug, which was travelling southbound when it was hit by the two unidentified projectiles.

The vessel sustained damage but remained operational and continued on its route. One minor casualty was reported, the advisory said.

UKMTO urged vessels operating in the area to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity to the organisation as authorities investigate the incident.

The incident adds to maritime security concerns in the region, although the advisory did not identify the source of the projectiles or provide further details about the circumstances of the attack.

The exact time of the incident was not immediately available.
