PORT HURON, Oct 26: US President Donald Trump drew attention at a political rally in Michigan after making a sexually suggestive remark about rapper Nicki Minaj's appearance, prompting cheers from the audience before he returned to his speech.
The comment came on Sunday, October 25, at McMorran Place Arena in Port Huron, where Trump appeared alongside Minaj while campaigning for Republican candidates ahead of the US midterm elections.
“By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before — Nicki Minaj,” Trump told the crowd. “That's hard to miss,” he added, asking the rapper to stand up.
Minaj, who was seated among the audience, stood and waved as spectators cheered. Trump then acknowledged that he had strayed from his speech.
“OK, I'm going to get back to my ... sorry,” he said. “I hope Nicki wasn't insulted, but we love Nicki. She's been with us for a long time.”
The exchange was recorded during the rally and reported by multiple news outlets.
Remarks followed comments about Republican senatorTrump's reference to Minaj followed a series of remarks he had made about Ohio Republican Senator Jon Husted's physique during recent campaign appearances.
At a rally in Greenville, North Carolina, Trump described examining Husted's build after learning about the senator's background as a college football player.
“I've never studied the body of a man before. It's not my thing. Nothing wrong with it, of course,” Trump said, before discussing Husted's muscular physique.
Trump returned to the subject at the Michigan rally, linking his earlier comments about Husted to his remark about Minaj. A transcript of the speech confirms the sequence of remarks.
Officials joke about possible White House roleMinaj's appearance also prompted light-hearted speculation about a possible role in the Trump administration.
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung shared a video of the rapper praising Trump's foreign policy aboard Air Force One, captioning it, “Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!”
The official Trump War Room account amplified the suggestion, joking that “Press Secretary [Nicki Minaj] has a nice ring to it.”
Neither post announced an actual appointment.
Minaj's growing political support for TrumpMinaj has become an increasingly vocal supporter of Trump since 2025, publicly promoting his administration's policies and appearing at events associated with his political initiatives.
Her support has drawn attention because of her prominence in the music industry and her increasingly direct engagement with US political issues.
At the Michigan rally, her appearance alongside Trump underscored her growing public association with the president and Republican political campaigns. The event also highlighted how celebrity appearances and informal remarks have become part of the wider political conversation ahead of the midterm elections.
