WASHINGTON / TEHRAN, July 21: US President Donald Trump said the United States would strike Iran’s Pickaxe Mountain area “pretty soon” and “very heavily,” amid reports that Tehran may have moved nuclear equipment to the heavily fortified site.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said Washington was monitoring Iran’s nuclear activities, adding that the focus was on nuclear material rather than centrifuges.

“We’ll be hitting that area pretty soon, and very heavily,” Trump said when asked about reports that Iran had relocated nuclear centrifuges to Pickaxe Mountain.

Meanwhile, Iran’s hardline Raja News warned that Tehran should respond immediately if the United States attacks the facility. The outlet called on Iranian officials to prepare a plan for withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and publish a list of strategic targets in the region, particularly in the United Arab Emirates, for possible retaliation.

Raja News claimed the underground and heavily protected facility could withstand bunker-buster bombs, while also raising the possibility of a tactical nuclear response.

The statements come amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear program and regional military activities.
