Trump warns of “rigged election” after Abdul El-Sayed clinches Democratic nomination

LANSING, Aug 5: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday questioned the integrity of Michigan’s elections after Abdul El-Sayed secured the Democratic nomination for the US Senate race.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump targeted Wayne County, which includes Detroit, alleging it was among the “most corrupt voting areas” in the United States. He claimed, without providing evidence, that the county had experienced cases where more votes were cast than registered voters.

Trump’s comments came shortly before The Associated Press projected El-Sayed as the winner of the Democratic primary, after he held a narrow lead over US Representative Haley Stevens for several hours. El-Sayed received about 48.5% of the vote, while Stevens secured 47.5%.

The president also warned about what he called “fake mail-in ballots” and urged voters to support Republican candidate Mike Rogers in the November 3 midterm election. Rogers, who ran unopposed in the Republican primary and has Trump’s endorsement, will face El-Sayed in the Senate race.

Later, Trump attacked El-Sayed, referring to him as a “Communist loser” and making accusations about his views on Israel and Jewish people, while describing his victory as a boost for Republicans.
