WASHINGTON, Apr 6: US President Donald Trump warned that Iran’s infrastructure could face devastating consequences if no agreement is reached, saying major facilities, including bridges and power plants, could be “decimated” under a potential military plan.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said the proposed response would cause widespread destruction across Iran’s infrastructure, adding that the damage would be “complete” and could render key systems inoperable for years. He also suggested that while such action was possible, the preference remained to avoid further escalation and potentially assist in rebuilding efforts if a deal is achieved.
Addressing questions on reported plans involving Kurdish forces, Trump said he would prefer they stay out of any ground operations, warning of risks and loss of life.
The US president also commented on the situation inside Iran, claiming some civilians have expressed support for continued strikes against regime-linked targets, and said many Iranians were seeking freedom despite the ongoing conflict.
On a separate issue, Trump said US authorities are actively investigating a leak involving a missing American pilot, warning that those responsible could face jail if they do not reveal their sources. He said the disclosure may have compromised the pilot’s safety and assisted Iran in identifying his location.
Trump also described a recent operation to extract US personnel from Iran as “risky,” but reaffirmed the principle that the United States does not leave its service members behind.
Concluding his remarks, Trump said Iran had presented a “very significant” proposal in ongoing talks, but added that it still fell short of US expectations, while noting that negotiations were continuing in good faith.
