WASHINGTON, Apr 13: Donald Trump warned that any Iranian vessels approaching a newly announced U.S. blockade would be “immediately eliminated,” issuing a stark threat as tensions with Iran remain high.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Iranian ships that come “anywhere close” to the blockade would be destroyed, adding that the action would be carried out swiftly and forcefully. He claimed that despite significant damage to Iran’s navy from recent U.S. strikes, Tehran still retains some “fast attack ships.”
The warning came just as the blockade was expected to take effect, raising concerns about potential escalation in already fragile regional conditions.
Meanwhile, a tenuous truce between the United States and Iran appears to be holding, with no confirmation on whether negotiations will resume before its scheduled expiration on April 22.
Ishaq Dar said Pakistan is working to facilitate a fresh round of talks between Washington and Tehran in the coming days, although neither side has officially responded.
Diplomatic efforts face challenges, with both sides reportedly believing they hold the upper hand in the conflict, complicating prospects for renewed negotiations.
