WASHINGTON, Jun 24:: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned that diplomatic negotiations with Iran would end immediately if Tehran imposes tolls or other charges on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Iranian officials had assured Washington that they were not seeking or collecting any fees from ships transiting the strategically vital waterway.
“They told us there are no tolls, no insurance costs, and no other charges of any kind,” Trump said, adding: “If this is false information, negotiations would end, immediately.”
The warning comes amid ongoing efforts to ease tensions between the United States and Iran and ensure the uninterrupted flow of global trade through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy shipping routes.
Trump also stressed that the United States would not provide direct cash payments to Tehran under any arrangement.
Instead, he said Washington plans to use controlled Iranian funds to purchase American agricultural products, including corn and wheat, for delivery to Iran.
“Food is desperately needed in Iran, and we will be purchasing it for them exclusively from the United States,” Trump said.
His remarks underscore the administration’s hard-line stance on financial dealings with Iran while signaling a willingness to facilitate humanitarian supplies through tightly controlled mechanisms.
