WASHINGTON, Apr 10: US President Donald Trump has warned Iran against reports that it is charging fees to oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, saying such actions “better not be” taking place and must stop immediately.
The warning came as Trump held talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on efforts to restore maritime traffic through the key global shipping route following a recent ceasefire between the United States and Iran. According to Downing Street, the two leaders discussed coordinating with international partners to develop a “viable plan” to quickly resume safe navigation in the strait.
Both sides agreed that with a ceasefire in place and commitments to reopen the waterway, focus must now shift to implementing practical steps to ensure the swift and secure return of global shipping through the critical oil transit corridor.
