WASHINGTON, July 29: US President Donald Trump vowed a “very hard” response after a drone struck a US-owned liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker at Egypt’s Mediterranean port of Damietta on Wednesday, raising concerns over the expansion of regional tensions into key maritime infrastructure.
Asked by reporters at the White House whether Iran was behind the attack, Trump said he had been briefed on the incident and described it as “a little more of the same,” adding that the situation would be addressed.
“We’re going to be hitting them very hard because it’s our turn to hit them. They know it’s coming,” Trump said, without providing further details.
The drone strike targeted the Energos Winter LNG tanker, marking a potential escalation as ongoing Middle East tensions increasingly threaten energy facilities and shipping routes in the region.
