Trump: US will confiscate Iran’s enriched uranium, rejects Hormuz shipping tolls

WASHINGTON, May 22: US President Donald Trump has said the United States will take possession of Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpiles, adding that they would likely be destroyed once acquired. Speaking to reporters, Trump stated that Washington “does not need” the material and would not allow Iran to retain it, warning that the US would ensure Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon, “or something very drastic” could follow.

On the Strait of Hormuz, Trump insisted the waterway must remain open and free, rejecting any form of transit “tolls” and describing it as an international passage. He also claimed that US measures were significantly restricting Iranian maritime activity, saying Iran is facing major economic pressure due to limited exports through its southern waters and asserting that no ships are entering or leaving Iranian ports without US approval.
