Trump Under Pressure After House Approves Measure Limiting Iran Action

WASHINGTON, Jun 4: The US House of Representatives has approved a resolution aimed at restricting President Donald Trump’s authority to engage in military action against Iran without congressional approval, delivering a political setback as diplomatic efforts to end the conflict remain deadlocked.

The vote comes amid weeks of difficult negotiations between Washington and Tehran that have failed to secure a breakthrough on ending hostilities and reopening the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. While Iran said on Wednesday that there had been “no tangible progress” in the talks, Trump struck an optimistic tone, telling reporters that a deal “could happen” over the weekend.

However, the measure faces an uncertain future in the Senate. Republican Congressman Tim Burchett dismissed concerns over the House vote, arguing it was unlikely to advance. He said Democrats brought the resolution forward while several Republican lawmakers were absent and insisted it “won’t go anywhere in the Senate.” Burchett also stressed the need to secure Iran’s uranium stockpile, warning that the issue remains a critical national security concern.
