WASHINGTON, Aug 1: US President Donald Trump on Saturday shared a post on his Truth Social platform claiming that his policies were “destroying Iran’s currency,” alongside a chart showing a sharp decline in the value of the Iranian rial against the US dollar.
The chart shared by Trump showed the rial weakening from around 900,000 rials per dollar in January 2025 to nearly 1.9 million rials per dollar by July 2026, highlighting the currency’s steep depreciation.
Trump did not provide additional details alongside the post, but the message came amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with economic pressure and sanctions remaining key elements of US policy toward Iran.
The Iranian currency has faced prolonged pressure due to economic challenges, inflation, sanctions, and regional tensions, contributing to a decline in its value against major currencies.
